The Model 1895 Officers' Undress Hat is made from dark blue wool, lined in polished cotton, 3.5" high with 1.5" wide black mohair braid sewn between two 1/8" welts around the hat. This was one of two hats authorized for all officers, worn in garrison or in the field. The Arms of the United States was embroidered on the front of the hat, and, along with a simple gold adjustable cap strap, was the only ornamentation allowed. For use in hot weather, an all-white version made of cotton drilling was authorized for wear without any form of ornamentation.
