The mortar is smooth-bored and breech-loading. As the barrel is too long to be loaded from the muzzle it is provided with trunnions to enable it to be brought to the horizontal for that purpose. It is also provided with a single equilibrator (balancing gear).

Details of the nuclear round are highly classified. No doubt it is a device with a yield of under one kiloton.

The Russians no longer use this mortar but it is employed by Iraq, Egypt, Syria, and the Chinese who designate it the Type 60.

None of these countries has been supplied with the nuclear projectile so far as is known.
