Duties in a Gun Detachment

Several factors dictate the size of a gun crew. When a modern (light) gun is in action there are seven personnel in the crew. Their duties are:

No1:    Detachment commander,
No2:    Opens and closes the breach, also takes the wheel on and off when the barrel is rotated when the gun is brought in and out of action,
No3:   Lays the gun and operates the sights,
No4:   Loads and unloads the Gun,
No5:   Assists the 2IC to prepare ammunition, and general tasks on the gun platform,
No6:   Second in command, prepares and accounts for ammunition, and
No7:   Driver
