Jim RossAfter three years at the RMC, Duntroon, aka "the Clink", Jim Ross graduated as Lt RNZA in 1947. Early experience was in 2NZEF Japan, followed by an attachment to 25 Fd Regt RA in Hong Kong, a garrison situation, and in Malaya with an independent 25-pr troop during the Emergency. Then came the usual mixture of administrative and training jobs (including the wharf strike), mainly in Southern District, with a pleasant break as Adjutant, 4 Medium Regiment, Hamilton, from '52 to '54, where he met and married Ruby. He attended the RNZAF Command and Staff College in 1961, and was Chief Instructor, School of Administration when the chance came of a trip, as Quartermaster, Battle Group Gurr (aka 1RNZIR) to Malaysia and Borneo from '64 to '65. The last appointment was 2ic 16 Field Regiment, Papakura, before leaving an Army which was even then starting to suffer the death of 1000 cuts. Then followed a beaut second career in hospital administration, building a sail cruising boat, and so Jim Ross lived happily ever after.
