Maj Gen Walter McKinnon
20 May 1998

Maj Gen Walter McKinnon was proud of his part in organising the anti-aircraft defence of NZ (against the threatened Japanese invasion), a large-scale operation never adequately documented. After commanding 29 LAA Regt, 3 Div he went, in 1945, to be 2ic 6 and 4 Fd Regts in 2 NZ Div, his service in both the Pacific and Italian theatres making him widely known to all ranks of the NZ Artillery. Joining this Association in 1959, he will be remembered as a loyal attender at annual reunions and as Patron from 1984 - 89.
