NPR Playhouse Presents - MIDNIGHT! compiled by Dick Judge (Feb 25, 2003) This short 13 week series was produced by Roger Rittner for NPR. It aired on many public radio stations beginning in July of 1982. It was heard off and on for at least the next five years as well. In one part of the country the series began its weekly run on July 13, 1982 and in another, on July 15, 1982. And in both these cases the arrangement of the thirteen programs were different; and for this reason there is no chronological dating in this log. Although characterized as a series of mystery and terror stories, there were departures into comedy - but with a twist. The series host, Graves, was reminscent of Raymond Edward Johnson's Inner Sanctum. Instead of the creaking door, we hear a clock ticking and Graves saying "The sun has set, the darkness deepens and the world awaits ....MIDNIGHT!" Most of the programs survive and can be found among the collections of many dealers.
