A M E R I C A N N O V E L S --------------- ----------- 1947 First Show: Jul 04, 1947 Last Show: Oct 03, 1947 Number Shows: 14 Audition Show: none Show Description: WORLD'S GREAT NOVELS was a series that brought some of the great literary works to radio, often as multi-part serials. The series, produced by the NBC University of the Air, originated in Chicago and ran from 1944 through 1948. In 1948, it was re-titled NBC UNIVERSITY THEATER and production was moved to Hollywood. The series left the air in the Summer of 1947 but it's Summer replacement was still produced by the NBC University of the Air but offering only works by American authors. It was entitled AMERICAN NOVELS. It continued to offer solid adaptations, closely following the original work. Four 2-part adaptations were done. The remainder were single shows. The series aired Fridays on the NBC network and was sustained for the full run. List Comments: According to information in J. David Goldin's OTR database, all shows have survived but some may be incomplete. Trying to find them in vendor's catalogs is difficult. Of all that I have access to, only Ed Carr listed one and McCoy listed a few more (see references below). Dick Judge offered all shows.
