Tinton Falls: A borough resident and her son were injured when their car collided with a Conrail train shortly after 8:30 a.m. yesterday, police said.

Patrolman David Scrivanic, the department’s traffic safety officer, said the woman, Sheryl A. Roach. 35, and her son, whose name and age were not available, were transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune for treatment.

A hospital spokeswoman said Roach was in critical condition last night.  Her son’s condition was unavailable.

Roach was driving south on Hope Road when she drove into the crossing and collided with the side of the engine as it was passing through the crossing, authorities said.

While it is not a gated crossing, the warning lights were flashing, according to Bim McGeehan, a spokesman for Conrail.

The driver was extricated from her vehicle by the Fort Monmouth Fire Department.  The investigating officers are Scrivanic, Patrolman Scott Trocchia, assisted by the Fort Monmouth Fire Department, Conrail Police and the Eatontown Police Department.
