The Timp
Bear Mountain State Park, Rockland County, New York

Directions:

West over the Bear Mountain Bridge; Bear Mountain traffic circle to exit for Rt. 9W south; passed by Iona Island and then a large parking lot on the right for the blue-blazed Timp-"Torne Trail; about 0.7 of a mile south of this parking lot is another, this one on the left.  We parked here and walked north on Rt. 9W to cross the road and head up the white-blazed 1777 Trail.

Trails:

5/22/2005.  On a day with spotty rain, Phil Duckett, dog Sonar and I walked up to the top of the Timp.  After parking at the parking area we walked back 100 yards or so, crossed the road and started heading uphill.  A ravine on our right and then the ravine on the left.  Reaching the intersection with the blue-blazed Timp-Torne Trail, we turned left (west).   Reaching the Timp we had some great views of the area.  We saw the shelter on West Mountain on our right (north).  Dr. Patrick L. Cooney.
