Fort Montgomery State Historical Site
Route 9W, Rockland County and Orange County


Directions:

From the Bear Mountain Bridge Traffic Circle take Route 9W north.  The historic site is located shortly after passing over the small bridge over Popolopen Brook. Parking is located 0.2 mile north of the historic site on Route 9W, at the north side of the lot for the Trading Post, beyond the existing garage.  (No parking anywhere along 9W or at Firefighters Memorial Park.)

There is also access from Bear Mountain State Park.   The Twin Forts Trail connects Forts Clinton and Montgomery, passing under the Bear Mountain Bridge. 


Scenic Hudson Land Trust purchased a 1.5-acre Town of Highlands parcel that the Palisades Interstate Park Commission will make a gateway to the Fort Montgomery Battle Site. The parcel has battlesite and Hudson River views and will provide visitor information, an eatery and parking.
