Bonticou Crag
Geology:
1,100 foot high, prominent, stark-white crag overlooking the valley.

1705 -- the name first appeared. It designated a kill (stream) and region of fertile lowland along the Wallkill River. Bontecou literally means "spotted cow" in Dutch.

open fields, forests
On the exposed bedrock atop the crag, the vegetation is sparse: pitch pines, a few gray birches, lowbush blueberries, mosses, and lichens.
Trail:
Moderately strenuous 3 mile round-trip from Spring Farm Trailhead.
