Sussex Swamp Preserve
Stickles Pond Road, Andover Township, Sussex County, New Jersey
Owned by The Nature Conservancy
No public access.
Directions:
West over the George Washington Bridge; US 80 to exit 25 for Route 206 north; after passing by the Holiday Motel, drive 1.2 miles and turn right onto Stickles Pond Road; drive 2 miles to the hidden entrance on the left side of the road across from the glass door of Emtek's white top, dirty yellow bottom building.
Trials:
6/27/97. These directions may be misleading, but this is what I wrote at the time.
To get to the fen: take the first left turn; continue straight until it looks like two ridges are approaching together and you are walking in a narrow valley; turn right and go over the ridge; there is a path over the ridge here; turn diagonally right and descend down hill to the fen; the path is very wet; it winds around in a horseshoe shape until it stops at a chain; the path still continues upland but I stopped and turned around. Dr. Patrick L. Cooney.
When the Newsteads and I went to the preserve, there was no sign about keeping out. When I later returned to the preserve, there was a sign saying to stay out.
