GREENWOOD FOREST WMA
Ocean County, NJ

Geology:

The headwaters of Cedar Creek are found in the Greenwood Forest WMA west of Bamber.  The Cedar Creek watershed connects the state Greenwood Forest WMA to the Lebanon State Forest. (Miller 2000:373, 600)


History:

General John Lacey and his partners jointly owned 1,000 acres of the Greenwood Forest Tract. (Miller 2000:167)

1977  --  the New Jersey Wild Scenic Rivers Act instituted; Cedar Creek nominated to be preserved; ad-hoc committee formed to prevent development in the area;


Habitats:

upland pine-oak forest; fields; lowlands contain pitch pine forest and Atlantic white cedar bogs; three small lakes and wetlands.
