Frank Sinatra Memorial Park

401 Sinatra Drive between 4th & 5th Streets, Hoboken, Hudson County, New Jersey

Directions:

Take the Holland Tunnel, get into the right lane and make a right at the first light (Marin Blvd).  Take Marin BLVD until it dead ends and make a right on to Observer Highway.  Proceed 2 lights and make a left at the second light on to Washington St.  Proceed to 3rd St. and make a right.  Take 3rd St. for two blocks and make a left on to River St.  Take River St until it dead ends and make a right on to Sinatra DR.  You will see the park and cafe on your right.  Street Parking is available along Sinatra DR in either direction, metered parking is located next to the park.

History:

1915  -- Frances Albert Sinatra born in Hoboken, New Jersey, the only child of Italian immigrants.

1930  -- Sinatra, at the age of 15, drops out of school. He attended Demarest High School in Hoboken and participated in all sports

1935 --  partnered up as the Hoboken Four, Sinatra entered a radio talent program called Major Bowes Amateur Hour and won first prize. He then performed with Major Bowes' traveling show and in a few years was singing regularly on radio stations.

1938  -- he became a cub sports reporter for the Jersey Observer newspaper.

1939  --  Band leader and trumpet player Harry James discovered Sinatra while working as a sing/waiter at an Englewood, N.J. restaurant, the Rustic Cabin. Sinatra became the lead singer for Harry's band The Music Makers.

1998  --  Frank Sinatra dies. 

1998  -- the park completed and dedicated to the memory of Frank Sinatra, Hoboken's favorite son.

Facilities and Activities:

Soccer field, running track, waterfront walkway (part of the Hoboken waterfront promenade), a sunken amphitheater that faces the site of the former World Trade Center towers, several summer musical concerts; gazebo; views of the NYC skyline; a cafe with a view of the New York City skyline.

Instead of grass, there are stones/bricks.
