Milltown Road Preserve
Milltown Road, Kingwood Township, Hunterdon County, NJ

Directions:

Milltown Road, a short distance west past the bridge over Lockatong Creek. There are some wildlife management area signs on the left side of the road. There are some places where a person can park along the road.

Not far from the preserve are the Lockatong Wildlife Management Area and Stewardship Forest.

Geology:

Some basalt (?) cliffs near the bridge.

History:

The land, which was previously purchased by a developer and subdivided, was on the brink of development. The Hunterdon Land Trust Alliance (HLTA) acted quickly and, after countless meetings with the owner and with the State Green Acres program, brought about a successful transaction whereby the State purchased the property and HLTA monitors it.

The HLTA has a project area that follows the Lockatong Creek and we are actively attempting to protect other properties along this important resource.

Habitats:

The Lockatong Creek borders the property.
