US 287 north; get off at exit 53; turn right onto Paterson-Hamburg Turnpike; just after the road crosses over the Ramapo River, turn left onto Terhune Drive; drive 0.2 of a mile and turn right onto Colfax Road; drive 0.4 of a mile and turn left onto Vale Road; turn right onto Pines Lake Drive; drive about 0.3 of a mile and turn right into the entrance on the right

History:
1930s -- John & Dorothy Knippenberg purchased the property. They established a nursery and their rhododendrons were renowned.
1993 -- the Knippenbergs upgraded the nursery to become a public garden.
1996 -- the Arboretum became part of the Wayne park system.
Dorothy Knippenberg still works everyday on the gardens.
On the Hagstrom Map they have the park labeled as the Charles A. Kurzius Memorial Park.
