White Lake

Location:

From Hamburg Boro Route 23, take Route 94 south to a left onto White Lake Road.

Geology:

White Lake and the surrounding area sits on top of an aquifer that supplies drinking water and also forms the headwaters of the Wallkill River.

History:

The beach had long a been a popular summertime outdoor swimming area.

Purchasing White Lake were the Trust for Public Land (through a grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation) and the Sparta Township Open Space Trust Fund (established by a voter referendum in November 2000).

Facilities:

Some of the land will probably be used for new soccer fields and baseball diamonds.
