Torne Valley

Ramapo Township, Rockland County, NY

The Town of Ramapo is buying 50 acres straddling the Ramapo River in Torne Valley, 38 of which contain wells supplying a third of the County's water, and is also buying 94 acres on Torne Mountain. These are the first open space acquisitions in the Valley since the withdrawal of the proposed power plants. Torne Valley Association supports the acquisitions but opposes the Town's proposed 12-acre active-recreation park along the river.
