History:

The name Hainesville comes from Daniel Haines, Gov. 1843-4,1845-8.

The tract was acquired by the state in 1933. The management program involves plantings, hedgerows and cover crops that provide food and cover for the upland game species.

Habitats:

fields, hedgerows, marsh, swampy areas, woodlands and  a 30-acre pond

Trails:

8/07/04.  Rosemary, dog Sonar and I actually parked next to the lake (turning left about 0.1 of a mile before the official entrance to the Wildlife Management Area).  We walked along the good-sized pond with its massive number of water lilies.  We wanted to see if we could walk all the way around the lake.  We found out that there is no formal or informal path around the lake.  We investigated the large field areas and the wood's edge.  Then we walked back to Route 675 but this time heading out through the entrance area to the WMA. Then we walked along the road back toward our car.  We also walked along the road at the lake/marsh edge. Part of the WMA is on the west side of Route 675, but we did not investigate it.  We were very happy with the number of blooms we were able to see in such a small area.  Dr. Patrick L. Cooney.
