FLAT BROOK CREEK

Directions:
US 80 west to Exit 1 and Old Mine Road north. 2.7 miles north of the signal light at the one lane part of Old Mine Road is the southern boundary of Worthington State Forest. 11.1 miles north of the signal light is the entrance to Millbrook Village.
Make a left turn at the village. Drive 2.1 miles north for the area at the Flatbrook Bridge.
Geology:
The Flat Brook Watershed Group and its tributaries include the most northwestern townships in Sussex and Warren Counties. It drains an area of about 130 square miles and includes the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area; High Point State Park; Stokes State Forest; Hainesville Wildlife Management Area; Flat Brook-Roy Wildlife Management Area; and Walpack Wildlife Management Area. There are four sub-watersheds: Shimers Brook & Clove Brook, Big Flat Brook, Flat Brook below Tillman’s Brook and Van Campens Brook & Dunnfield Creek.

History:
The first settlement in Sussex County was along the Old Mine Road. In 1738 the only grist mill in the county was on Flat Brook near the Delaware River. (Hine 1985:153)
