Van Tassel Memorial Park

Town residents only.

Part of it is behind Somers High School and Elementary School and goes into Reis Park. Van Tassel Park is also located on Primrose Street, just north of Reis Park. The two parks are separated by the Wright-Reis Homestead, which is maintained by the Somers Historic Properties Board.


Directions:

US 684 north and get off at exit 6A; turn left for Route 22 north; turn left onto Green Street; go over a branch of the Croton Reservoir; turn left onto Plum Brook Road; follow that road, passing over another branch of the Croton Reservoir to a right turn onto Route 139 north. Reis Park is adjacent to the cemetery on the right.


History:

The park is made up of two properties acquired by the Town through the subdivision approval process.

Facilities:

a recreation/senior center (housed in the historic Tompkins Marshall House), police headquarters, a beach volleyball court, new athletic fields, and comfort station.

Since Reis & Van Tassell Parks are adjacent to Somers Central School District properties just north of Van Tassell Park, this creates a chain of public land along the east side of Primrose Street that extends 4,500 feet and includes 230 contiguous acres.
