Here is the Long Island Chapter of The Nature Conservancy (since 1971).

History:

This is a former dairy and sheep farm named "uplands" because it was the area's highest point of land.

1926 -- wealthy financier J.P. Morgan boys the farm as a wedding present for his daughter, Jane.

1971 -- Jane Nichols Page donates part of the property to The Nature Conservancy.

1981 -- on Ms. Page's death, she bequeaths the rest of her property to The Nature Conservancy.
