town named for Widow Pawling, Beekman heiress, who inherited some of Beekman's 1703 Patent

c. 1728 -- Quaker Nathan Birdsall settles in the area

1731 -- Treaty of Dover confirms land titles and settlement from New England and Long Island begins

1849 -- the Harlem Line reaches the Harlem Valley; Gorestown becomes Pawling

1893 -- Pawling Station becomes Pawling Village
