Maple Swamp County Park

Flanders, Southampton, Suffolk County, Long Island, NY


Directions:

Montauk Highway (Route 27) east; exit for Pleasure Drive north.  The county park is bounded on the west by Pleasure Drive; the north by Route 24; the east by Birch Creek/Owl Pond County Park; and the south by Griffing Road and the Montauk Highway. 


History:

April 1996  --  NY State Governor George Pataki and County Executive Robert Gaffney along with representatives of hiking groups walked to this section of the Paumanok trail.


Habitat:

Red maple swamp, the largest one in the Long Island pine barrens.


Trails:

The Paumanok Path goes through this area going from Flanders Hill on the west to Maple Swamp and on to a junction with the yellow-blazed Birch Creek Trail (that runs along the west side of Birch Creek Pond).
