The park extends southeast of Broadway in Hewlett.

History:

The park is located on land that was once a farm owned by a family named Grant.

1920s through the 1940s -- area was used for excavating sand.

1955 -- Nassau County began acquiring the land.

1965 -- the park opens to the public.

Facilities:

A manmade lake occupies nearly half of Grant Park, and there are facilities for skating, sledding, picnicking, barbecuing, basketball, and tennis, as well as playgrounds and a spray pool area.

Nassau County Department of Recreation and Parks says:

Grant Park features a variety of activities for all ages. An outdoor roller rink is available for private charter and public sessions on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:30-3pm., during the spring, summer, and early fall, and an outdoor, artificial ice rink takes over with public sessions and charter sessions in the winter months. Games areas include horseshoes, shuffleboard, basketball, tennis, and handball as well as softball and Little League baseball (permit required). Soccer is also played. A seasonal sled hill provides fun galore when a sufficient supply of white flakes are provided. Modern playgrounds, furnished with state-of-the-art equipment provide three separate play areas for the pre-schooler, 4-8 year old children, and 9-12 year old. The playgrounds (groups need reservations) are centralized around a gazebo from which parents may sit and watch their children. A new spray pool area is designed to intrigue and refresh young visitors. A spacious, unreserved and reserved picnic area includes barbeque equipment, while the park provides a restful backdrop for walkers, runners, bicyclists or for a lakeside stroll. The lake also provides for excellent fishing.
