Suggested route leads through a wooded area and along Northwest Harbor passing
by large freshwater pond and historic homesites along the way.
NORTHWEST WOODS
Directions:
From N.Y.C. and points west take the Long Island Expressway to Exit 70
(Manorville - rt. 111). Head South a few miles until you reach Sunrise Highway
(Rt. 27). Go east staying on Rt. 27 until you get to Wainscott. Make a left onto
Daniels Hole Road (Wainscott Northwest Road) to Rt. 114 (Sag Harbor - East
Hampton Turnpike). Make right onto Rt. 114, in ½ mile is parking is on left on
side of road by a dirt road.
History:
1985: The 516-acre Grace Estate in Northwest Woods, East Hampton, is protected
in a cooperative project between the Town of East Hampton and The Nature
Conservancy.
Trails:
The Northwest Path (part of the Paumanok Path) goes through the white pine
forest of East Hampton's Northwest Woods.
One starting place is at the Northwest Schoolhouse Plaque, at the dirt pull-off
on the east side of Northwest Rd., 1/4 mile south of Alewive Brook Rd.
