Clarence Fahnestock recent purchases
via Stone Hollow Road or Route 301, Philipstown, Putnam County

2000 (June 6)  -- New York State Governor Pataki announced the purchase of 513 acres for the Clarence Fahnestock State Park for $2 million dollars, increasing park acreage to nearly 11,000 acres. The land fronts on two roads, State Route 301 and Indian Brook Road, and is wholly located in the town of Philipstown, Putnam County.  The land has several wetlands that feed the Indian Brook and Clove Creek.  The purchase was negotiated by Trust For Public Land and the Open Space Institute.

Funding for the purchase comes from the 1996 Clean Water/Clean Air Bond Act. The parcel was owned by Anita and Robert Jacobson.

The Open Space Institute has purchased 699 acres from the Fresh Air Fund for $1.8 million, in the Highlands east of the Hudson River and next to the Appalachian Trail. The land will be added to Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park and help protect the Fishkill Creek watershed, water supply for 13 Putnam/Dutchess County towns. The Open Space Institute purchased the 500-acre Gleneyre property next to Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park in Philipstown (Putnam Co). Part of the Fishkill Creek watershed, which provides drinking water for thousands of Dutchess County residents and is the County’s second largest watershed, the land may become part of the Park.
