History:

The park was a former military post.  

1967  --  the island sold by the federal government to New Rochelle.

late 1960s and early 1970s  --  Consolidated Edison planned to build a nuclear power plant on the property.

1980s  -- Xanadu Property Associates wanted to build condominium towers on the property.

1990s --  Donald Trump considered building condos and mansions.

2001  -- the future park property was purchased by Westchester County from New Rochelle for $6.5 million with money from its open space fund.
