Directions:

Just east of the intersection of Ocean Parkway and the Robert Moses Causeway in the Town of Babylon.


History:

early 1800s -- the name Cap Tree Island used at this time. According to legend, it came about because a local bayman put a cap on a tree or a post as a means of marking the channel.

1954 -- the park opens.

Facilities:

7,000 feet fronting Fire Island Inlet, features a boat basin with excursion, diving, and whale-watching and fishing boats, and picnic facilities.

Hours: Sunrise-sunset; boat basin open 5:30 a.m.-sunset (fishing pier open 24 hours; permit required).
