Take #7 train to Rushing, Main Street, last stop and walk to Bus Stop N20 past Mercy's Dept Store on Roosevelt Ave. Bus leaves at 10:27 AM to Clocks Tower stop in Roslyn. Fares: Metro Card.

History:

Cedarmere was the Long Island home of William Cullen Bryant, 19th-century poet and newspaper editor. The house museum features exhibits, furnished rooms, restored gardens, pond and mill.

The Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn Harbor is restoring its historic landscape set on 145 acres. Marian Cruger Coffin, one of America's first major women landscape architects, designed this landscape as a formal garden. Items to be restored include the garden's circular reflecting pool and central fountain jet.

Facilities:

Visit the poet's mansion with a lovely pond and gardens. Then a short climb to the preserve to stroll through the beautiful grounds with gorgeous trees. See the lovely Clayton Formal Gardens, the lake and sculptures. Visit the Tee Ridder Miniatures Museum and the Nassau County Museum of Art.

Easy 5-6 miles walk.
