Some viewers may notice that not all pages on this site follow the same format.  Please be aware that New Jersey Expressways and Tollways is, and has always been, continually under construction.  From the sites initial creation in late 1999 until early 2001, this involved only the addition of new material and pages to the website, starting with the interstates and continuing to the toll roads and United States routes.

However, in early 2001, the main site map provider,
MapQuest, unveiled a revamped mapping format.  Because not all of the maps necessary for the site had been created at that time, the dillemma of how to avoid incongruities from the two different mapping formats now existed.  After much deliberation, it was decided that MapQuest would continue to provide the source of most maps on the site, due to the ease of creation and editing of such maps.  It was also decided that the existing maps would be completely discarded in favor of the new format, and that the new maps would also incorporate substantial increases in size and accuracy above and beyond those which MapQuest actually offers.  This upgrade was systematically implemented during the spring, summer, and fall of 2001, and attention then returned to adding new site material and pages, including the completion of the United States routes and the beginning of the state routes.

However, in late 2001 and early 2002, additional improvements to the map, exit list, and picture pages were prototyped on random pages within the site.  These prototypes culminated in the complete reconstruction of the New Jersey Turnpike (Original Mainline via Car Lanes and Eastern Spur) (NJTP)
pictures, map, and exit list pages in January and February of 2002.  This page set is now the basis for a complete site reconstruction which will be implemented in the future.  However, because of concerns which were voiced about the lack of site progress and growth during the map reconstruction of 2001, it was this time decided that all remaining uncompleted pages would be constructed first in the new format before any existing pages were reconstructed.  Thus, in late January 2002 the McCarter Freeway (NJ 21) pictures, map, and exit list pages became the first page set to be produced in the new page format.

Throughout the next year or two, the remaining uncompleted pages will be constructed in the new format, and then all older pages will be reconstructed to match that format.  Thus, until then the discongruity of somewhat different page formats will continue to exist.

However, all existing pages will remain open as much as possible.  There may be temporary periods when broken intrasite links exist, but rest assured these will be corrected within days, if not hours, of their creation.

Thank you for your patronage and please continue to enjoy New Jersey Expressways and Tollways.
