Comments: Hello, We are Elske (15 years old) and Evelien (16 years old) and we are two girls from Dordrecht, the Netherlands. We are doing a research for a schoolassignment about the Liberation in 1945. We have to research the World War II and personal liberation experiences of civilians and soldiers during the period 1944-1945. We have to interview veterans and survivors. The aim of the project is to assemble an oral history of American and other Allied participation in the liberation of the Netherlands during World War II, as well as the courage and endurance of the Dutch people. If you are a World War II veteran or survivor or if you know a World War II veteran or survivor or if you have got any information that might be useful for the assignment, please let us know by sending us a letter or an e-mail. Also, if you are the editor of a newsletter or if you know a newsletter and if you think we could publish a little ad about our assignment, please let us know as well. Thank you so much. Comments: This is a superlative page that performs a valuable service. My father was a "D-Day Dodger" in an American engineer combat battalion in II Corps of the 5th Army. He landed in North Africa and fought his way up Italy, building bridges, and roads, and rebuilding airfields at places like Foggia. Pages like yours help me to appreciate that the Italian campaign saw the true application of the principles of the United Nations. Dad never forgave me for my fascination with all things British. As I discover the role of the Canadians in the Italian theater, I hope his spirit will meet me half way. His father's spirit will I am sure, since he worked on the Canadian Hydro plants at Niagara Falls before WWI. I am something of a plastic modeler, and hope to do some Canadian Shermans in Italy, thanks in part to the excellent decal sheets from Ultra-Cast and a useful booklet by Doug Dingwall, I think. Keep up the good work on this page. As the "Vingt-Doos" say, "je me souviens." Bob Potter Wilmington, Delaware

On the website of the Municipal Archives of Zwolle there is a little exhibition op pictures of Canadian liberators in front of the Roman Catholic Hospital in Zwolle on April 14, 1945. Maybe there are still Canadians who recognize themselves on these photographs? Maybe you would be so kind to link our site? I have the only complete list of all CMP Model numbers, plus CMP Chev and Maple Leaf/GMC trucks, and Chev/Pontiac cars from 1939 to 1945. I have got some photos of Ford CMP #13 cab and MCP trucks being assembled at Goole, near Hull, Humberside. If anyone wants copies of these I am going to start selling prints. I am desperate for any more photos. of the Southampton Canadian Mechanization Depot at Southampton, 1940, and the later one at Slough, Buckinghamshire, 1941-45.

Need equivalent of U.S. size 44 jacket & 36x34 trousers. And _ dream on _ a pair of U.S. size 13 British combat boots. (I know these existed because about 39 years ago, I found two Size 13 British combat boots (both for the left foot, unfortunately) at a surplus store in New Mexico. E-mail any suggested sources for the battle dress uniform. (Would also need the shirt & tie, and suspenders (braces?) I guess.

The other information I do know is the following 102 Second NPA, Fort William Ontario. This information was taking from a photo dated Noevember 1940. I am asking for any information or places I can go to find out more information about what happened to my father in the war. He died in 1984 and us children would like to know more. He was a private man and we didn't know he fought on the front lines until a month ago. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you

(Almost but not quite.) 170 Lynx came to Oz. 30 went to the bottom of the ocean during WWII. There are the remains of about 15 Lynxs' over here that have been found sofar. Only one is a runner in South Australia, there is one at the Armour Museum at Puckapunyal (Vic), and another cosmetically complete at The Melbourne Tank Museum. The rest are just bits and pieces. I would like you to contact me if you can help. Thanks...

Comments: A very well-done and informative site!I have been interested in the CMP trucks especially since the 60's, when there were a number of unrestored ones to be found in this area ( near London, Ont.).BTW-does anyone know what happened to the 15 cwt rolling chassis that used to be used for instructing army cadets at Camp Borden in the 60's?

Comments: Finally, may I add that GM Limited in Southampton refurbished hundreds of CMP/MCP/GMC trucks from 1947 onwards to 1951, and sold thousands of dollars of spare parts all round the world. I have some information on these civilianised trucks, and some FATs were in fact converted to trucks or even buses! I have a lot of CMP Trucks, as well as MCP CC60L trucks to British Army order. Please do ask!

Comments: I have almost finsihed the history of General Motors in the British Isles from 1899 to 1954. I have spent years researching the history of GM in the UK, and also in Canada, and have also undertaken a lot of research on Fords as well. I am researching the history of GM Limited's Southampton Plant from 1938 to 1998. In April 1940, most of the Chevrolet assembly plant in Southampton was leased to the Canadian government ["the CANADIAN MECHANIZATION DEPOT" or "CANMECH" for short] for the assembly of CMP and MCP Chevrolet trucks, some Ford CMP trucks, Ford and Chevrolet sedans: 4,400 or so, from May to November 30 1940 when the Plnat was bombed. Assembly was then switched to GM Limited in Lancashire, Citroen Cars Limited in Slough, Berkshire and a myriad of other companies all over Britain. The Canadian Army set up camp next to the Slough Trading Estate, and the second "CMD" was created. I have a database of every type of Chevrolet CMP chassis, CMP-based Armoured trucks, Staghound, MCP Chevrolet/Maple Leaf/GMC trucks, cars, etc. produced by GM of Canada or GM Corporation for Canada, plus civilian pattern trucks supplied for the British government: Ambulances, coal trucks, canteens, etc. I have details of all the engine number series, model numbers, etc if anyone wants it! The Canadian Forces saved our backs in May 1940 after Dunkirk, and the Brirish Army took huge numbers of trucks in 1940 having lesft theirs on the beaches.

Comments: Hi, I latched on to your site while trying to do a search on my dad's regiment which he always said was the 7/11th Hussars which I believe was the 5th Cdn. Armoured Brigade...Could you advise me on how I could trace his movement from Canada to the European Warfront...He was stationed in England for about 2 years before embarking on the Italian Campaign, etc. Can I find this out via the internet?? Let me know if I can be of any help...dad passed away just a month ago and I would like to place an appropriate flag on his gravesite as well as his other brothers(3 others) who served overseas in WW11 years. Thank-you Joanne Karn daughter of W.Del Karn

Comments: Just wanted to thank you for all the hard work you have put into Maple Leaf Up. Your constant improvement of the site such as the little update flags make it one of the best if not the best military vehicle sites I've found. I've made Maple Leaf Up the home screen for my computer so that every time I turn it on I see whats new. I also want to say thanks to everyone who has taken part in the discussion on the Forum. Of course the focus of the site is of particular interest to me. Being a couple of hundred miles from the nearest (other ) CMP nut it is great to have a place to discuss CMPs. Keep up the go

Dad was a member of the force whose job it was to clear the beaches of mines prior to the landings. I may be wrong, but I think it was Juno Beach on which he landed. Dad is now 76 and is secretary of the Normandy Veterans Association based in Plymouth UK and can be contacted on [email protected] Being based in Plymouth, their NVA make regular trips over to Normandy via the local ferry service, and still maintain strong links with Normandy.

Comments: Absolutely incredible! Finally found someone else with the carrier affliction who has a computer! We just got our second this past fall, and they reside on Georgian Bay. Mine is minus its armour and has had a merc truck motor put in, with the single distributor cap but is otherwise in great shape, obviously just a runner and used for fun. The second one, however, faired better and for the most part is correct. Could you recommend a replacement paint and who might manufacture it, something suitable for a Canadian machine? Thanks, look forward to hearing from you. Andre

Comments: A most interesting site and very informative. Should anyone have a CMP, many parts such as wheel cylinders, engine parts and wheel bearings etc are available from a good auto parts supplier. Bring the originals and quite often the part numbers can be cross-referenced. Brake shoes can also be relined if you have the specs from the manuals as well. Anyone know the location of Chev C-15-A S/N 4844303810? Had a winch on the front, believed to be in the Vancouver area now. That was my first CMP truck.

Comments: It is good to see such an informative and interesting site. We small but happy band must co-operate and work together, whether it be discovering, recovering, restoring or simply recording, everyone has their part to play. A local MV enthusiast, Barry Jameson, hopes to recover a Ram from a local Army range this summer. I don't know where he is going to put it, he has three of my M18 TDs and two 155mm Howitzers in his yard. His biggest problem, the enviromentalists are worried about the damage to the ground while it is being recovered! God help us. Probably the best restored Fox Armoured Car is the one that used to belong to Geoff Maskell from Sunderland. This was restored during the mid-1980s and now resides in the Diffenbach Collection in Belgium. Keep up the good work: I'll be back.

Comments: Geoff This site is getting better and better with each passing day. The D/G is particularly interesting as it deals with the "Real Thing" as opposed to the many model sites on the web. It is unique ,because it deals with Canadian manufactured material with Military applications. It is not limited to one sector ,such as automotive. This leaves lots of room and many directions to expand. Thanks for the link and a job (On going!)well done. Cheers Alex Blair Military Manuals

Comments: Welcome! This has been a long time coming, and well overdue. For years, a small group of enthusiasts across the globe have quietly been collecting and restoring WW2 British, Canadian and Commonwealth vehicles, arms and equipment. Until now, there has been virtually no web presence for this area of interest, save a few excellent and specialized sites such as Rod Diery's and Keith Webb's. What we hope to offer is a good all-around briefing on this paraphenalia, along with a little bit of history. The vehicles will be a big part of it, and in this respect, we hope to be able to bring you comprehensive coverage of existing and restored specimens. Much more too! This is all new and very much in development, so please bear with us as this is definitely a part-time endeavour! More is coming soon... and I'll try to keep you updated regularly. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or gripes, please feel free to mail me or leave a comment in the Discussion Forum. Thanks! Geoff
