South of the border... Canadian National GP40-2L 9578 shows off its zebra stripes at Port Newark, NJ on November 28, 1999. Note the high mounted bell over the nose of the unit and the extended roof over the walkway behind the car, all measures to keep CN's locomotives going through Canada's harsh winters.
In front of CN 9578 sits EMD SD40 6425 of obvious Conrail heritage. It's obvious that Electromotive is in no hurry to fully repaint the unit into their leaseing company paint.
CSX GP15-1 1566 sits quietly at Port Newark Yard on November 28, 1999 still brightly showing off it's former owners paint. Conrail purchased 100 such units new in 1979 just three years after its formation.
CSX C40-8W 2737 and PRR GP38 7606 are handling with ease the 31 cars of CSX train Q71 as is seen arriving Port Reading from the Chemical Coast Secondary on February 5, 2000.
Another GP15-1 is seen at Port Reading Yard on February 5, 2000. Not many of the units recieved the Operation Lifesaver paint on the long hood. The paint crews luckily stencilled the crossbucks correctly on this unit unlike the screwup on the GP38-2 they first did.
Amtrak AEM-7 932 is seen with a westbound train in tow at Metuchen, NJ on the Northeast Corridor. No matter what anyone says, I still like the old red white and blue paint instead of the new Intercity(NE Direct)scheme.
Conrail WPSA-35 is seen returning to Browns Yard in South Amboy as it crosses the Cheesquake Road grade crossing on January 12, 2000. Note the yellow pilot...A couple units recieved this paint along with dual white strobes on the roof similiar to NJT and Amtrak locomotives.
