About these images:
They were found on the back sides of individual pages in John Moran's scrapbook, which contained mostly photographs he took in the 1860s. Many of these images, both photographs and watercolors or drawings, or photographs of the same, are accompanied by brief handwritten notes about the buildings. These were probably pasted in by LCP staff in the late19th century, at a later date than Moran's use of scrapbook. In some cases, the photographer or artist is identified and the image will be dated, but often it is not.

Washington Residence in 1793.
Photographer unknown; no date
"Clipping reads "This house, No. 4782 Main St. Germantown, Philadelphia, was built by David Deshler in 1774 and '75. At the time of the Battle of Germantown, it was taken possession of by Sir William Howe commander-in-chief of the British Army as his head-quarters; and here he received a visit from the future King William the 4th. then a midshipman in the British Navy. In 1782 the property was sold by David Deshler to Colonel Isaac Franks, aid-de-camp to Washington. During the yellow fever of 1793, the seat of government was removed to Germantown, and Washington rented the house furnished from Colonel Franks. In 1804 it was purchased by Elliston and John Perot as a summer residence, and on the death of Elliston Perot in 1834 it fell to his share and became part of his estate. His son-in-law Samuel B. Morris, purchased it soon after, and resided there until his death in 1859, leaving it by his will to his son Elliston P. Morris the present owner who resides in it. 8th Mont 1876.""
