Background:
This old Spring Cottage stood on the north side of West Rittenhouse Street, between Honey Run and the Old Poor House. The Monfay and then the Stroup families lived here during the nineteenth century. Passers by entered the front door to drink from the spring or to enjoy the home-brewed root beers which cooled in the spring. Demolished before 1898.
