East Rittenhouse and Morton Streets
Bethel A.M.E. Church

Background:
Bethel A.M.E. Church, organized in 1859, is Germantown's only pre-Civil War African-American church. In 1907 the church occupied this stone building at Rittenhouse and Morton Streets. Later the church moved to a much-altered movie theater at Tulpehocken Street and Germantown Avenue.
