Background:
This coach factory stood on the north side of West
Rittenhouse Street. Jellet describes the mid-nineteenth century
Smith & Burk coach factory, placing it near Germantown Avenue,
between Honey Run and the old Spring Cottage adjacent to the Old
Poor House (37 West Rittenhouse). The 1871 shows Fishers' coach
factory at that location. The 1871 and 1885 Atlases for
Germantown show a second coach factory on this block--the C.W.
Burk coach factory past Adams (McCallum) Street at what is now
109 or 111 West Rittenhouse Street.
Demolished.
