Brief description:
"The gable roofed houses below Germantown Avenue are important
parts of the growing strip community near Market Square. This is
a common city house type, with a gable paralleling the street and
pairs of square headed windows at the three floors. Because this
is a detached house, the door was placed on the side and has
since been screened by a porch. Windows on the side indicate the
extent to which the urban form is broken. The porch is a later
addition, but one which linked the house to the changing suburban
ideal."
History, significance, and background:
"The small houses near Germantown Avenue mark the extent of the
highway community which grew in the 18th and 19th century. This
is an interesting adaptation of a house type found in
Philadelphia at corners, but here detached."
