Britton Harris House
114 W. Rittenhouse Street
Philadelphia PA 19144

Late Federal (constructed circa 1840) stucco residence with wood trim in above average condition. Survey by Clio Group, Inc. prepared by G. Thomas, 5/11/83.

Brief description:
"The gabled roof, pedimented dormer and stucco and wood palette of materials indicate the early date of this small Federal house. Its three register facade, with side door and leaded transom, 6/6 windows with paneled shutters and box cornice below the gable roof are typical of the building type. A short rear service wing made the house a more generous version of the village house type."

History, significance, and background:
"The early houses remain close to the principal Market Square neighborhood. This is an especially handsome house, recalling the surviving proportion of the 18th century, but with the delicacy of 19th-century detail."
