"6138 (Shoemaker, 5138)
This house stands upon what is part of 'lot No. 20, towards the Schulykill,' drawn in the names of Abraham [??] de Graeff and Arents Klincken. Watson says, 'Arents Klinken came from Holland with William Penn on his first voyage in 1672. He left a son, Anthony Klincken, whose house was next to that of his father.'

"Hotchkin states that the present house was built by Anthony Johnsonn for his daughter Agnes, who married Daniel Thomas Miller of Wissahickon. Anthony Johnson had married Susan Rubicam. The land once belonged to Martin Weaver. The house was at one time rented to Dr. John D. Godman the naturalist. It was while living here that he wrote 'The rambles of a naturalist'...a short time before his death in 1830...

"Mr. Charles Haupt says of this place, 'A Mrs. Slusman once lived here. After her it passed into the hands of Samuel Weaver. Many noted people have lived in the house; in my time I can recall Mr. Ford, a French teacher, and Hampton L. Carson. In 1871, the place is recorded as belonging to Elizabeth Weaver. It was afterwards sold to Enoch Taylor, who was sheriff of Philadelphia. He altered the place materially, by building a new front and making other improvements. His widow now owns and occupies the house."
