Background:
Before Charles Megargee built his mansion ca. 1858, he demolished three old stone buildings and one frame structure standing upon the lot. The long, low frame building was known as 'Noah's Ark.' The property had been in the hands of the Knorr family during the first half of the nineteenth century.
