South side of Chestnut Street from 3rd Street to Husdons Alley, 1883

As it looked in 1809.

Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, Pa.

This view shows a row of unidentified red brick buildings. The one at the corner and the next two appear to have display windows for businesses. Next are five identical 3 1/2-storey townhouses. At the left margin is a covered wagon. To the right is a passenger carriage with folded hood. There are twelve pedestrians, male and female, including an African-American man wearing an apron pushing a wheelbarrow with a crate or wooden box on it. The buildings in the scene are identified by number under the bottom margin as: 96, 98, 100, 102, 104, 106, 108 and 110.
