South side of Chestnut Street from Carpenters Court to 4th Street, 1883

As it looked it 1809.

Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, Pa.

There are several brown wooden buildings in this scene. One appears to be a residence. Next is a stable (?), a large barn (?) and another residence (?). In the barnyard behind the wooden fence is a large mound of an unknown substance. In the street a stagecoach comes into view. There are fifteen people in the scene: a young African-American boy carrying a bundle under each arm, four women, and nine men.
