    A typed inscription accompanying the watercolor indicates that the watercolor descended through Clara Hocker Illman, daughter of Civil War General Hocker. She had married Henry A. Illman, head of a steel engraving printing company, who passed it on to his niece Sarah M. Johnson of Ardmore Street in Philadelphia.
