SAFETY CONTROL FOOT PEDAL
(See Figure 1)
A foot pedal is located at the operator's position. The pedal must be depressed at all times during locomotive operation. If the operator's foot is removed from the pedal for mroe than five seconds, brakes will apply at SERVICE rate. For further description, see SAFETY CONTROL.
LOCOMOTIVE OVERSPEED
When the locomotive exceeds the maximum permissible speed, an overspeed application is initiated.
The overspeed whistle blows.
In about five seconds, a penalty brake application is initiated if train speed has not been reduced sufficiently. See the air brake regulations for proper procedure.
