NJ TRANSIT Awards Contract For New Train Control System

Dec. 9, 1999 -- Harmon Industries, Inc., announces its California-based subsidiary, SYSECA Inc., has been awarded a $10.7 million contract from New Jersey Transit Corporation. SYSECA will provide an advanced Train Management and Control system for New Jersey Transit's Rail Operations Center in Kearny, New Jersey.

New Jersey Transit is a full-service transit corporation with headquarters in Newark, New Jersey that provides passenger transportation throughout New Jersey. The Train Management and Control system will be a state-of-the-art command, control and communication center for 13 commuter rail lines operating up to 150 trains simultaneously on approximately 750 miles of track. The SYSECA system will enable New Jersey Transit to enhance passenger service through real-time monitoring and control of trains and coordination of emergency response activities. Another Harmon subsidiary, SES CO Inc., will team with SYSECA to integrate external communication systems with the central computer system. Project completion is scheduled for 2002.

``This new contract comes at the same time we are commissioning another SYSECA system under a previous contract for New Jersey Transit's Hudson-Bergen light rail line,'' said Bjorn E. Olsson, president and chief executive officer of Harmon Industries, Inc. ``We are pleased to have been chosen again and believe this indicates their confidence in the Harmon team. The teaming of SYSECA and SES CO demonstrates the breadth of our product offerings and integrated systems and further establishes Harmon in the rail control center market.''
