Elizabeth
Former name retained.
The first Elizabeth (No. 972), a motorboat, served in a noncommissioned status in the 5th Naval District during World War I. On 12 December 1917 she was sunk in a collision with the American steamship Northland in the harbor of Norfolk; two lives were lost in the collision. Elizabeth was salvaged and resumed her former duties. On 10 November 1919 she was transferred to the War Department.
