This course introduces students to some of the skills and knowledge required to forge and heat treat steel parts, including the safety aspects of these processes. These units are designed for people planning to work in the Mechanical Engineering industry. The level of skill required to complete these units is very challenging so we do not anticipate students achieving full credit. However, this programme will assist students who wish to work towards completion of these units at a later date.NEXT STEP: Further education and training | UNIT/STDNUMBER | UNIT STANDARD TITLE | LEVEL | CREDIT | | 2824 | Follow safe working practices on an engineering worksite | 2 | 3 | | 9125 | Make parts for firearms by hand forging under supervision | 2 | 15 | Course Length: 36 hours (12 x 3 hours) Student Numbers: 10 – 12 Venue: Negotiable Time of Year: All year (block courses available in school holidays) Days: Negotiable Pre-requisites: Open Entry Notes: People who work on firearms MUST hold a Firearms Licence – proof required
