Great War Gizmos

 

Just the thing for crossing No-Man's land when the whizz-bangs are flying about.

 

Necessity is the mother of invention. Perhaps so, in that case there were some very odd things going on during the Great War as can be seen in the following photos of gadgets and gizmos. But all kidding aside, inventors and people out to make a quick buck (frank, pound sterling or Reichsmark included) did their best to come up with new-fangled contraptions and inventions. Some were conceived in earnest with the best of (patriotic) intentions, others were a bit on the odd side, to say the least. Some were even ahead of their time. Most were good for a laugh and a photograph in a morale raising magazine article.
