Belgian Victory Prints
Popular Prints from 1919
These two prints show scenes from Belgian victories in 1918, the first of fighting in the Ypres area and the second of the liberation of a typical but unamed Belgian village. Both were meant to be framed and displayed and were consequently of good quality, although the artwork itself is somewhat naive and almost of a fairy-tale like nature, showing 'idealized' scenes that have since become part of stereoptyped collective memory of the Great War in Belgium.
